Social Emotional Learning

The process of acquiring the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are necessary for the success of education, work, and life is social-emotional learning. Individuals with decent social-emotional abilities are better able to deal with daily difficulties and benefit from academic, professional, and social benefits. 

SEL establishes a framework for meaningful, long-term impacts on adolescents, adults, and families, from successful problem-solving to self-discipline, impulse control to emotion regulation, and more. All of the abilities taught in an SEL program are communication, getting along with others, assertiveness, and problem-solving. Such abilities allow individuals and organizations to create a safe, inclusive, and effective work climate.


To build a well-functioning, caring community, life skills such as emotion management, problem-solving, rational decision-making, self-regulation skills, and sustaining healthy relationships support. These abilities help individuals adapt, be resourceful, and function well with others. They are all taught in SEL programs, similar to emotional intelligence, a term used outside of school settings.

In young health, laying the cornerstone of SEL in education has positive, long-term benefits. Studies indicate that students not only have proven gains in academic performance and positive results in school and life, but are also better prepared with career preparation skills to excel professionally.

SEL, highly respected by enterprises and future employers, trains the workforce for tomorrow by instilling these skills: Communication, Empathy, Assertiveness, solving problems, emotion management, anger management, Recognition of Emotion and there are a lot more things.

It is specifically stated in the New Education Policy draft published, as it acknowledges the need to conceive education more holistically, ensuring that students become academically as well as socially and emotionally competent. Socio-emotional abilities can be interpreted as the values, attitudes, and behaviors that help children control themselves and their relationships with others in the form of school-related teaching and performance.

Indian education has been faced with a generational challenge during the course of the pandemic, and with schools either closing or moving online, children have been deprived of one of the most basic aspects of school life, meeting one’s mates.

If we introduce empathy to a kid, they’ll stop bullying other kids. They would stand up for other children being abused if we teach children assertiveness, that’s why we need to teach Social Emotional Learning from the beginning of childhood.
